Stemming from a single demonstration meeting, the City Talkers and Healthy Voices clubs, both of El Paso, chartered within three days of each other and will be holding a combined chartering ceremony on April 17th at 8am.
The idea for the clubs sparked to life in September, 2013, after an El Paso Department of Health Speakers’ Bureau meeting which featured guest speaker Ruby Moseley of the El Paso Community College Toastmaster Club. Afterwards, she spoke with Division D Governor Gbenga Asedeko and the club building process began.
The group held a demonstration meeting in December followed by an official kick-off meeting in January. Because of the overwhelming response of forty-three new members signing up, the group decided to split the club into two clubs in order to better meet the needs of the members.
City Talkers, which chartered on February 24, 2014, meets every Thursday morning from 8am to 9am in the Department of Health (5115 El Paso Dr, El Paso, Texas.) The club was sponsored by Marian Pacheco and Orlando Rodrigues. The club mentors are Gbenga Asedeko and Charles Stapler.
Healthy Voices, chartering on February 27th, meets every Wednesday morning at 8am at the same address. Gbenga sponsored this club and is also a mentor for it. His co-sponsor was Melanie Fatuesi and his co-mentor is Charles Stapler.
