Before entering the professional world where I’m required to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds, I didn’t realize how absolutely essential it was to have decent communication skills, at a minimum. Practicing in Toastmasters is one of the greatest opportunities we have to foster such a critical competence. Although it’s cliché, I really can’t imagine my life without Toastmasters. Many times in the last few years, I’ve been called upon to speak in countless settings of all types. Normally, that would be terrifying and nearly unconquerable to most, but Toastmasters gives you the confidence and spark you need to get the attention of an audience AND keep it.
I’ve been a member since 2008, and I’m still learning new things. I continue to attend meetings because I have fun and I’ve made life-long friends. Aside from the endless good times, I’ve gained valuable skills that I use in the real world every day. My Toastmasters journey is more fulfilling and treasured each year. It’s truly irreplaceable.
