I was invited to visit a Toastmasters club in January 1996 by a friend and co-worker. My husband, John, said that he had heard very good things about Toastmasters while he was living in Raleigh, NC before we married. So we visited the (gulp) 6:30 am meeting of the Pop Up Toasters club. Most people join for personal or work reasons, I joined to support my husband in his quest to be a better speaker and gain public self-confidence. We decided to join the next week, and have hardly looked back since, next month that will be 19 years ago.
We have been members of a number of clubs, and have both served in District Leadership offices. Apart from the well-structured program, and support from your fellow members, the things I always point out to new people is that the people who join, and stay, in Toastmasters are kind, optimistic, interested in self-improvement and in helping others achieve their goals. It is a great place for great people.
