District 23 honors the memory of two long-time Toastmasters: Walt Sala and Jody Todd, who passed away last week.
Walt Sala (Albuquerque Area)
A wonderful storyteller, Walt was also a bit of a curmudgeon. He came from the old school that believed speakers should never step away from the lectern, which members frequently heard in Walt’s evaluations.
Walt was a lover of the spoken word. A Toastmaster for over 50 years, he held many club positions. In 2006, he co-founded the Taylor Ranch club.
Walt’s family requested donations be made to Roadrunner Food Bank or the Albuquerque Rescue Mission in lieu of flowers or gifts.
Jody Todd
With a passion for the rules and protocol, Jody loved attending Toastmaster meetings and events. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in whatever was needed. A long-time member of The Majestics, Jody also belonged to other clubs over the past many years.
An active community member, Jody was involved in many political organizations in Northeast El Paso. She served as the Secretary of El Paso Texas Flags Across America, Director of Northeast El Paso Civic Association, and Director of Northeast Healthy Communities.
Jody spent time helping others including making quilts and blankets for children in hospitals.
Jody’s service will at 11 am at the Old Glory Memorial, located at Gateway North and Diana Drive. A meal will be served at Northgate Optimist Club following the service. That is located off Hondo Pass at Neptune. The address is 4201 Skyline Ave. That is a block up the mountain from Gateway So at Skyline.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests to El Paso Flags Across America
Please keep Jody and Walt and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
