Surrounded by family and friends, Past International President Robert E. Barnhill III passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018, in Lubbock, Texas.
Robert lived in Lubbock with his wife, Past International President Jana Barnhill, and was a member of the Articulate Club, Lubbock Club, and Lubbock Professional Club. He was born on December 29, 1956. In 1986-1987, he served as the District 44 Governor. This was before District 44 split and merged with Districts 23 and 25. That year he led the district to President’s Distinguished status. Bob was elected to the Toastmasters Board of Directors in 1989 and served a two-year term which ended in 1991. In 1992, he was elected as 3rd Vice President of Toastmasters International. In the following years, he served as 2nd Vice President and 1st Vice President before being elected to the office of International President for 1996-97.
Bob was an adjunct professor at Texas Tech University and taught Personal Financial Planning. In honor of his dedication to both Toastmasters and the PFP students at Texas Tech, in November 2014, the Robert Barnhill PFP club was chartered at Texas Tech in the Personal Financial Planning department.
He was a friend, mentor, and inspiration to countless people.
