International President George Yen, DTM, visits District 23 for the Fall 2013 Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on October 18 to 20, 2013.
President Yen will be involved in a number of activities over the conference weekend including leading several sessions during the conference itself. Lieutenant Governor Jef Conn and Immediate Past District Governor TK O’Geary will also take President Yen on a number of corporate visits in and around Santa Fe in an effort to help raise awareness of Toastmasters through various visits, to help grow membership and clubs for the benefit of all of District 23.
In addition, Lieutenant Governor Education and Training Jim McCabe, Immediate Past District Governor TK O’Geary, and Albuquerque area leaders will escort President Yen around Albuquerque. Along with several club visits, the group will make a corporate recognition visit with Presbyterian Healthcare services and stop for a cable television interview with “Good Morning NM.” You might even hear President Yen on the radio.
Wednesday night, Albuquerque clubs will hold a reception honoring the President and allowing Toastmasters and non-Toastmaster guests to meet him. Thursday night, Santa Fe will hold a similar reception with the President delivering special presentation that night.
President Yen of Taipei, Taiwan, is Chairman of the Board of Great Sequoia Corporation, an international management and trading company based in Taipei, Taiwan. In addition, he serves as the chief executive officer of four international joint ventures with Japanese, Canadian and American corporations in the fields of machinery and industrial products. He speaks four languages and holds a master’s degree in international relations from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
A dedicated Toastmaster for 23 years, Yen is a member of four Toastmasters clubs. He has held a number of distinguished leadership positions within the organization and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation—the highest level of educational achievement in Toastmasters.
Yen credits much of his success to Toastmasters. “My Toastmasters training gave me the confidence to stretch my comfort zone,” he says. “It has sharpened my clarity and power in thinking, speaking and writing.” As for his international career, he says Toastmasters “has expanded my network of friends worldwide and has provided me with a sense of empowerment.”
As an officer of the Toastmasters International Board of Directors, Yen is a “working ambassador” for the organization. He leads the Board in developing, supporting and modifying the policies and procedures that guide Toastmasters International in fulfilling its mission.
