2020 Contests
Tall Tales: The contest where Toastmasters use creativity and imagination to take us on a 3-5 minute entertaining and highly improbable journey.
International Speech: “The Daddy of Them All” Toastmasters speech contest. The bravest, most driven Toastmasters will inform, entertain, and inspire us during their 5-7 minute speech to vie for the title of District 23 champ. The winner earns the right to move to the next round of competition on the path towards potentially becoming the next World Champion of Public Speaking.
Contest Logistics
This year, both contests will be held online. See the official District 23 Contest calendar entry for details about the contest date, time, and online connection.
International Speech Contest Video Recording
This year we are thrilled to partner with the award-winning Alamogordo High School Film Club. Kathy Wallis, an experienced film teacher, and her accomplished senior students will video the International Speech contestants.
Videography information:
- Videoed in high definition
- Use of professional lighting
- Incorporation of boom microphones connected directly to the cameras
They will video with two separate cameras, not only for back up purposes, but also to give the winning contestant two options to choose from when submitting the video for the next level of competition. Ms. Wallis and her students will provide each International Speech contestant with a complimentary CD of their videoed speech.
International Speech contestants will have the option of videoing their own speech. There will be a designated area where the contestant’s representative can set up a camera. Contestants wishing to utilize this option must provide their own camera, tripod, and representative. The contestants and their representatives who choose to utilize this option will be required to attend a mandatory meeting that will take place no later than 2 hours before the contest. This meeting is to ensure coordination with the professional videographers and the contest Toastmaster.
